During SVNIT
As a student of apna SVR, I was not sure of what to do in the future except that I had absolutely no interest or aptitude for technical education, no motivation to do a job so that left MBA as a viable option.
I was known to wake up at 12, my attendance was in single digits and I passed by using the immensely helpful chits throughout exams.
After NIT Surat
Getting admission from IIM K, I was apprehensive about going to Kerala, where my friends at NIT Calicut have had harrowing experiences with food and language.
Nevertheless, I came to Kozhikode aka Calicut, woke up at 9 every morning, attended more than 90% of classes, slept only 5 hours a day, was elected as Member of Alumni Committee, learnt accounts, stats, marketing, IT and HR in the first term, gave 20 subject quizzes, 8 mid terms, 8 end terms, submitted 40 case studies, completed 5 projects all in 3 months and wondered what has come over me.
People here work hard but they party harder. Coming from a dry state, I partied atleast every weekend, ate better mess food than NIT by far, got a hukka in the room and thoroughly enjoyed the scenic beauty of the ‘K’ampus as well as Kerala.
I am trying to prepare a B plan, will be doing my summer training in Axis Bank next year – my first corporate experience and am thoroughly enjoying my last 500 days as a student; so life is vibrant and exhilarating at present. The best thing about being in an IIM is that I am branded for life and I now have lifelong friendship with some of the future corporate leaders of the country.

SVNIT of the future-Five years later
Disclaimer: This article written by a sadist is a pessimistic view on how the college is developing and focuses only on the negatives (among the many positives) of the institute (mind you: not college).
Kindly don’t mind.
When the students joining SVNIT this summer will pass out, here is how the college will be:
Student Council: My favorite field to start with- Since most of the admitted students will be from AP and Rajasthan, Regional politics will lose steam in case elections take place and students will take the cue from You-Know-Who (You-Know-Who refers to- well you know who) and follow interdepartmental politics with dominant departments being the mechanical and civil departments and the playmaker being the Applied Mech.
Student council will function for only 5 days in a year and all non academic activities of all committees including the technical and cultural fest will have to be organized during that time.
Imagine, if elections do not take place, our eminent faculty, which has the noble goal of enabling everyone to have overall personality development, will select the 10 pointers to the student council on the basis of their inexperience in all fields except academics and they will manage fests and (oh…that’s already happening- I forgot)
On the other hand, the sure shot way to enter a committee to manage a fest would be to fight before an election.
Faculty positions (like deans) will also be allotted not on the basis of experience but on the basis of the marks they score in an exam conducted to test their technical knowledge.
Scet’s technical fest Kshitij will become more famous than Mindbend.
Faculty will manage fests themselves and mostly the faculty and their kids will perform in the cultural fest.
The college band will perform in the celebrity night and the cost will be 10 lakhs.
The traditional dress competition (believe me that is what the fashion night is called) will feature only boys.
Infrastructure will be awesome. 50 crore worth of stuff will be constructed in 500 crore.
Tender of Convocation hall will finally be passed.
SAC: Gym will be in the process of being renovated since the last three years. The pool table will be put at a faculty’s house and the rest of the facilities will be reserved for the faculty. Students can access the facilities everyday from 5 to 6 AM.
Hostel Section:
Anybody who wishes to leave the college premises will be able to do so only with the written permission of the chief hostel warden.
In-time will be 7.00 pm strictly because students drive fast in the night and get involved in accidents. Anybody coming late will be tested by an imaginary breathalyzer because students drink outside the college (in imaginary bars I suppose) and come to college drunk late at night. All this will be written in a notice and informed prior to the students.
Security at the main gate (consisting only of women) will be extremely strict involving passing through a metal detector
Chamunda will close shop due to the in-time.
Hostel section will get tired of levying fines and start periodic extortion of money- Hafta
If more than two people will be found in a single room, they will be tortured for disturbing the sanctity of the hostel room.
All wardens will have LCD monitors mounted on the walls of their office
Localites will not be allowed in the hostel premises at any time under any pretext.
There will Close Circuit Cameras in all hostel rooms so that students do not misuse them.
Everyone will have to make an entry in a register while leaving their rooms.
Hostels will continue to have seeping toilets.
There will be 4 seater rooms for BTech while each Mtech will get three rooms.
Discipline: There will be separate partitions in the whole college itself for girls and boys. Imagine railings in the middle of classrooms. On the roads, the left side will be for the boys and the right side for the girls. Girls and boys seen talking together will be academically penalized. Girls will have to follow a strict dress code of full sleeve salvar kurta while boys will have plain formals.
A US prison team will visit the girls hostel and provide consultancy and beef up the security by employing electric fences etc.
Academics: All classes will take place(Bunktime=0) even though faculty will play games like Dumb Charades during classes because they will have nothing to teach. (Its happening in one department already)
MBA will be offered with a highly distinguished faculty.
There will be jammers in the departments so mobiles cannot be accessed.
Exams will be held on Holi and Diwali.
Girls can report out of the hostel only during class timings and they will have to report back for the lunch time.
Computer department will use facial recognition for attendance.
Miscellaneous: Instead of a yellow pill, people will be given a green pill in the dispensary
Canteen will be the same as it is since the last 10 years. Every morning Shekhar bhai will get up and read the newspaper, all the tables and chairs(on the verge of being broken) will still be the same, the same TV will adorn the place and the food and taste will not change a bit.
On the college internet, only the SVNIT mail client can be opened, for all other websites, you will get a regret message. Even google can be used for devious purposes, so its better that it is banned.
DC++ will be monitored continuously by the faculty.
There will be no funding for student projects since all the money will go to keep changing granite floors in a particular department.
Sitting inappropriately in the canteen may lead to a GRE candidate to forfeit his letter of recommendation.
Adam teasing will be in vogue instead of eve teasing.
We will get a TEQIP rating of 11 on 10.
Along with deciding the Institute’s magazine’s name, the faculty will edit all the articles too. Students will be used only to photocopy and scan the articles.
Inspite of all this, students will be students and they will find a way to enjoy in all these restrictions like we have.
Kindly don’t mind.

IIM K GD PI Experience
Well, after skipping SIBM call, here I am.
Date: Feb 13
Place: Mumbai
Background:
Met Gaurav(singhal) at Bandra station, where he told me about his stress interview. Went to eat at sheesha with vikas.
The process
Reached the venue at 8.30. Waited till 9.00 Was slotted into panel 3
GD Topic: Long topic about an American doctor helping Haiti medical system by community based medical service. He believes that equality of medical service is a basic right. But ppl want food along with drugs. And racism , sexism etc is prevalent in society.Number of Ppl present:11Time: 2 minutes to think and 10 minutes to discussBrief Snapshot of Discussion: holistic view should be taken. basic necessities like food water and sanitation should be ensured. People felt that poverty alleviation was the important task. someone mentioned it could be removed by employment. Causes regarding poverty of ppl were discussed. GD was peaceful. But social aspects were not discussed in detail. It was a horible GD for me because I entered it only twice and that too, the points did not connect with the others, I feel.
Maybe I was sleepy, I just dint speak anything substantial. After the gd while waiting for pi, i remembered so many new points which would ve changed the whole scene in gd. I dunno, couldnt think of anything during it so screwed it up big time. I was hoping to do well in gd to cover up for my weak acads.

SCMHRD interview
I have not blogged since more than 6 months now, so feeling a bit rusty. Even my last post regarding my trip is incomplete and there are so many new happenings to tell. But let me start off with the first interview for a B School i underwent yesterday-the first interview of a long and fruitful season, i hope.
B School: SCMHRD( Symbiosis sentre for management and humanity resource development)
Venue of GD/PI: Pune
Time: 1.30 PM 9th Feb 2009
A background
We had to select our GD slots online so that was a convenient process. I reached Pune in the morning of 9th after sleeping peacefully in the bus on the way and meeting some college juniors at a highway Dhaba who were on their way to Daman at 12 30 in the night(ya its true). I was sleeping when the bus reached the stop where I had to get off, so I had to jump bus with my blanket and belt in hand and totally sleepy and dazed. Chintan came to pick me. By the time he came, I managed to look presentable [;)] We got to his flat(it was very cold-my eyes were watering) and met his friends- Abhishek and Priyank who were about to leave for college at 8 15 in the morning (so early). Chintan and I bakared till ten and he left for his lab. I lazed around, got ready and reached the venue by 12.45 (very early by my standards). I had a huge lunch in the rooftop restaurant there with Sourabh- passout form BITS Pilani and working in Pricewaterhousecoopers, and was just in time for the GD registration.
Registration
The process was very systematic and efficiently organized and it looked impressive. Moreover, the people managing the time and guiding the candidates were students of the college itself, so it felt nice to keep interacting with your would-be seniors. I chatted with a senior-Prerna and learnt more about the life there.
I was slotted with Ankit, Ankur and two more people with names starting from "A" (lol). I was A5. A1 and A3 were freshers while A2 and A4 were work ex ppl. A4 was smelling [:(]. We proceeded for our GD at around 2 15.
GD
The GD infact was a case study to be discussed only among the five of us. The case study was of 1.5 full pages so the five minutes given to read were actually spent only on reading. The topic was-Some background regarding Prime minsiter facing isses of reservation, crude oil price, inflation etc. The people want to vote for a good candidate due to Mumbai terror attacks. As a citizen, who among the given 7 candidates would we want to see elected for our local constituency.
C1: Kiran Bedi (Names were changed but characterstics were same)
C2:Narayan Murthy
C3: Rahul Gandhi
C4: Ratan Tata
C5: Lalu Prasad Yadav
C6: E Shreedharan
C7: Shahrukh Khan
Noone started at first. A4 then started by proposing Rahul Gandhi's name. He was cut in by A1 who wanted to discuss all candidates one by one who was cut in by me who wanted to list out favourable characterstics in a leader. So qualities listed out were youth, dynamism, honesty, transparency, experience, proactiveness etc.
Then discussion started candidate-wise. A3 was mistaken that this election was for prime ministership. I corrected him because all his arguements were based on this assumption. The moderator interfered in between by saying that as A5(me) has rightly pointed out, please focus discussion on local issues (brownie point for me, I guess). Since the group focussed only on the positives of Rahul Gandhi, I brought in the fact he will not be able to give ample time to his constituency. 20 minutes with only 5 participants gave enough time for everyone to express their views. We hastened discussion on C6 and C7 and came to a consensus that Rahul gandhi was the best candidate because of his contacts and experience and youth. The panelists asked each of us a question. A4 was asked about C4 but he answered about c3. I was asked how the candidate will be able to affect issues of reservation and increase in prices. I said that since he is at a local level, these macro issues cannot be determined by him, though he may represent the people's stand in parliament.
Interview
There were two Professors OP:old prof and YP:Young prof and M:me
OP:sit
M: thank you sir
YP: do you have any other calls?
M: yes sir. IIM C, K MDI, SIBM
YP asks about when each call is and i tell him

M: 1st pref: IIM C. Not decided rest.
YP: not iim k after that?
M: No sir
OP: some variant of why MBA
M: started about my family business
OP was not much convinced
So i told him the problems faced by my company now and how after an mba i could solve them
OP: much interested: so u wont take a job from placement cell
M: no sir,if i feel the need to gain experience, but as of now i dont
YP: What else have you done in college?
M: College politics and Events head of a committee in college
YP: what do u do in that?
M(very happily): explained in as mcuh detail he wanted
YP: asked about cpt and what changes regarding ca pe 1
YP: difference between agreement and contract
M: I answered in my own words
YP: formula of standard deviation
M: goofed up a bit
YP: as u can see, i have only asked u fundamnetal questions which u r unable to answer. with this profile, u may get into iims but scmhrd focuses on the fundamnetals which u lack blah blah
YP: Any questions u want to ask?
M: placements of scmhrd
YP: answered in extreme detail
interview took approx 15 mins. It was quite casual in nature and the facult was interactive.
